FLAS (Foreign Language and Area Studies) Fellowships

Greetings from the FLAS office!  The US Dept of Ed has recently prioritized professional students for the FLAS award, so iSchool students would make competitive candidates.  One of the changes the USED has made to FLAS requirements to better meet the needs of professional students is to reduce the required credits from 5 each to 3 of foreign language and 3 of area studies (per quarter).  Courses in a student’s field can also be counted towards the area studies requirement if the student’s work in the course focuses on their selected world region.

See the attached flyer on the FLAS for more information on the program:  FLAS Flyer for 2012-13
