Campus Visit Program Tour Guide Job Description
Lead Daily Campus Tours: On average you will be scheduled for 1-2 tours per week. This schedule is based on your class schedule. While tour times are subject to change due to the various seasons in an admissions cycle, tours are generally offered:
Monday: 10:30 a.m. & 2:00 p.m.
Tuesday: 10:30 a.m. & 2:00 p.m.
Wednesday:10:30 a.m. & 2:00 p.m.
Thursday: 10:30 a.m. & 12 noon
Friday: 10:30 a.m. & 2:00 p.m.
Saturday: 1:00 p.m.
Campus Tours are not offered on state holidays. During the spring break and peak summer seasons, for four to five weeks, extra tour departure times are added to the schedule. Also, not all Saturdays are scheduled due to holidays and general campus activities.
Act as Welcome Center Greeter. Greeters ensure that the Welcome Center (or other rooms used for admissions information sessions) are prepared to receive visitors. The Greeter opens and sets up the Welcome Center, receives guests warmly and professionally, mingles with visitors, and assists with late arrivals. Greeter shifts are from 8:15-9:15/30 & 12:15-1:15/30 in conjunction with the admissions information sessions that precede the tour shifts listed above.Lead Special Tours. Special Tours are for visitors who might be on campus for a field trip or special program. These tours are scheduled based on the group’s travel schedule. Opportunities are emailed to all guides as requests are received. All Campus Visit Program guides are required to lead at least two Special Tours per term. Special tours are not offered on Saturdays.
Attend Office of Admissions Recruitment Programs. All staff are required to work any special programs hosted by the Office of Admissions. This will include the Admitted Student Previews, held Mondays and Fridays (and some Thursdays) for 4 weeks each spring. Fall Preview programs are also likely to be added. You may also be asked to represent the UW at college fairs and other recruitment events throughout the Puget Sound and Pacific Northwest alongside Admissions staff.
*Note: For special programs held on campus, it is expected that you are available to work outside your regular class time. Not all students will be scheduled for each program. Hours and responsibilities are shared equally among the team.
Read, acknowledge and respond to CVP communications within twenty-four hours (forty-eight during the weekend). As part of a supportive, collaborative and dynamic team that works with prospective students, their families and the public, the ability and willingess to communicate in a timely, professional manner is critical.
Attend trainings and staff meetings. Staff meetings occur 3-4 times each quarter.
Special Projects. Team members may be called upon to assist with special projects as needed. Opportunities are available in event management, data management, and public speaking.
Winter Break: All staff are required to work four tour/greeter shifts during one Winter Break.
Spring Break: All staff are required to work three days during one Spring Break.
Spring Break Season: All staff are to be available to guide tours outside of normal class time.
