The iSchool Career Fair is fast approaching: Tues., Jan. 30, from 12:30 to 4:30pm in the HUB Ballrooms. To help you make the most of the event, the career team will be sharing a series of fair-specific tips over the next couple weeks. Our first focuses on dressing appropriately for the fair.
Thought the event is on campus and during the middle of the school day, ICF calls for more formal clothing than your standard classroom getup (unless you’re a particularly well-dressed student). As we noted in a newsletter last quarter, career fair attire should be similar to what you would consider wearing to an interview.
A button-up shirt with some slacks (not jeans!) should work, as should dresses, or skirts paired with a nice shirt or sweater. Solid colors and subtle patterns tend to be more appropriate, though the fashion-forward may be able to pull off something more flashy. Ties are optional — they’ll neither make nor break your outfit.
Shoes can be oxfords, derbies, loafers, heels, or ballet flats. Tennis shoes and sneakers should be left at home if possible.
As for accessories, watches or jewelry can be a nice touch. And while we allow bags and backpacks in the Ballrooms, be conscientious of the fact the space can get crowded and hot — you’ll likely be more comfortable not carrying those items. (To this point, if you’re someone that gets warm easily, you might also want to ditch the blazer if you were considering one.)
