Funding: Study Abroad in Denmark

Deadline: Applications due by January 31, 2020

Are you a UW student interested in studying abroad in Denmark? Are you not sure how you’re going to fund it? If so, you should consider applying for the Scan|Design Fellowships! Open to graduate and undergraduate students, the Scan|Design Foundation provides generous financial support to UW students participating in Danish university exchanges and summer study in Denmark.


Academic Year and Semester Scholarships (up to 2 semesters)

  • Undergraduate: $6000/$7500/semester or $12,000/year
  • Graduate and PhD: $9000/semester or $15,000/year
  • Summer Quarter: $1500- $4500, dependent on credits taken & length of study

Be a U.S. Citizen and a University of Washington matriculated undergraduate or graduate student. Students participating in fee-based degree programs run by PCE are also eligible.

    • Apply to a UW Danish Study Abroad Exchange Program through the UW Study Abroad Office by January 31st
  • Possible Danish Institutions include:
    • University of Copenhagen
    • Copenhagen Business School
    • Aarhus University
    • Aarhus Architecture School
    • Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts
    • Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS)
  • Provide a summer study/travel proposal that outlines your plans to participate in one of the options below:
    • Independent Learning: Can include internships, independent research, and independent study
      Requires UW faculty sponsor
    • DIS (Danish Institute for Study Abroad): Summer courses for 3 – 9 credits
    • Aarhus Summer University: A range of courses offered in English, 5 & 10 ECTS
    • University of Copenhagen: Courses in English in several departments, variable ECTS credits
    • Copenhagen Business School: Exchange with UW Foster School of Business
