Hello!Just a quick reminder that the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship application is open!  Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2015.Applicants must be pursuing an eligible high-demand science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) or health care major, and meet additional eligibility criteria listed on the website.A poster and a sample application are also available for you to download and share or print.

Mary Gates Scholarships

The Mary Gates Endowment for Students is currently accepting scholarship applications.  Mary Gates scholarships provide $4,000 ($2,000 per quarter for two quarters) for students to pursue leadership or research activities.  These scholarships benefit students in the current academic year, and are open to all UW undergraduates regardless of class year, major or residency status.  Deadlines are coming up soon, so begin the application process, and attend an information session and application workshop.

Funding: Alaska Library Association Scholarship for Graduate Library Studies

AkLA has established a scholarship program to support the education of librarians for Alaska’s libraries. The stated purpose is to provide financial assistance to worthy students pursuing a Graduate Degree in Library Science and to encourage graduates to return to Alaska to work in professional library positions. Preference will be given to an individual meeting the federal definition of Alaska Native ethnicity. The amount available this year is $4,000. The recipient will be announced at the AkLA Conference, February 27-March 2 in Anchorage. To be eligible for the scholarship, an applicant must be an Alaskan resident who:

  • Possesses a Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university;
  • Is eligible for acceptance, or is currently enrolled, in a Graduate Degree program in Library and Information Science in a university program accredited by the American Library Association;
  • Is or will be a student during the academic year, semester, or academic quarter for which the scholarship is received; and
  • Makes a commitment to work in an Alaskan library for a minimum of one year after graduation.

Undergraduate Scholarship & Fellowship Fair

The Undergraduate Scholarship & Fellowship Fair will be tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 10. More than 30 UW, local, and national scholarship program representatives will be hosting tables in the Mary Gates Hall Commons from 10am-2pm. Undergraduate students, alumni, and graduate students are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Scholarship programs represented offer a variety of funded experiences from study abroad to research to foreign languages, to those supporting specific populations, specific fields, etc. Some are specific to current undergrads, others are open to all levels of students. So all are welcome to attend and take advantage of this unique opportunity to meet and talk directly with program representatives!

Mary Gates scholarships benefit students in the current academic year, and are open to all UW undergraduate students regardless of class year, major or residency status.  Students from Bothell, Seattle and Tacoma campuses are all encouraged to apply.  Deadlines are coming up soon, so students should begin the application process and attend an information session and application workshop.
