Memorial Day is a sacred day in the military community. It is a day in which we celebrate our fallen service members, one where we honor their lives and sacrifices, and the day that we mourn their loss together with our surrounding community.

Memorial Day is… is a week of events aimed at raising awareness of the true meaning of Memorial Day and a way for the military community to welcome in our friends and family to mourn the loss of our military service members who made the ultimate sacrifice. The 2019 Memorial Day is… program will focus on servicewomen who made the ultimate sacrifice. Continue reading

Are you a Veteran, or eligible for Veterans’ benefits to cover graduate education? Interested in learning how a graduate degree in information science can help you achieve your professional and personal goals?

Attend an online information session especially for Veterans and those eligible for Veteran’s education benefits, who are interested in the iSchool’s Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) and Master of Science in Information Management (MSIM) programs. Learn about building a career in data science, information architecture, librarianship, information security, UX, IT consulting, information management or the information sciences!

Events: Participate in Veterans Appreciation Week, Nov. 5-11

Veterans

The University of Washington community is excited to announce the inaugural Veterans Appreciation Week, Nov. 5–11.

Here are a couple of the key events saluting the UW students, alumni, faculty and staff who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces:

Lecture: Acting U.S. Surgeon General Boris Lushniak
Thursday, Nov. 7, 6:30–8 p.m.
As acting surgeon general, Dr. Lushniak shares the best available scientific information with the public on how to improve personal health and the health of the nation.

Veterans Day Celebration and Ceremony
Monday, Nov. 11, 11 a.m.
This tribute and ceremony includes a performance by the Husky Marching Band; recognition of the 2013 Distinguished Alumni Veteran Award recipient, Mr. Charles Matthaei, ’43; and a post-ceremony reception in Kane Hall. Continue reading
